Placenta encapsulation is a traditional postpartum practice that some families choose as part of their recovery after birth. It’s a gentle, intentional way of working with the placenta after your baby is born, and for many it feels like a meaningful part of closing the birth experience and tending to the postpartum transition.
If you’re curious about whether this is something you’d like to include in your care, we’re happy to share more below.
Placenta encapsulation is a traditional postpartum practice involving the preparation of the placenta so it can be consumed in capsule form in the weeks following delivery.
Many families are drawn to this practice because it feels like a meaningful way to honor the placenta and to support their postpartum transition. We approach this work with care, respect and attention to safety and handling.
After your baby is born, we arrange to pick up your placenta directly from your birthing location.
You’ll simply text us when you’re in labor and again once you’ve delivered. If you’re giving birth in a hospital, you’ll want to remind the staff numerous times to save your placenta for you. We recommend bringing a small cooler and two one-gallon bags so the placenta can be placed on ice until pickup.
Your placenta is then picked up by one of our certified encapsulators, who prepares it using careful, food-safe practices in a designated space used only for this service. The placenta is cleaned, gently steamed and dehydrated at appropriate temperatures before being ground and placed into capsules.
Your capsules are typically ready within two to four days and will be returned to you along with simple guidance for use.
We work with trained, experienced placenta encapsulators who follow established safety and handling protocols. This service is offered as a supportive option for families who are curious about placenta encapsulation and feel drawn to include it in their postpartum care.
We’re always happy to answer questions and help you think through whether this feels like a good fit for you.
Placenta encapsulation is a traditional and personal practice. Experiences vary and research is still limited. We do not make medical claims or guarantees and encourage families to discuss any questions or concerns with their care provider.
